The server has limited resources, only request the tiles you really need please.
Hosting is sponsored by Oxilion. Based on OpenStreetMap data from: 26-07-2010.
How to use this website:
- The easiest way is to select the country from the drop down box and proceed with step 5 or change your selection with step 2. If your country is not listed then proceed with step 2. Using unchanged predefined country selections will often produce your map faster then making your own selection!
- Zoom and scroll until you see the tile(s) you want to add or remove from the selection.
- Tick the 'Enable manual tile selection' box at the top of this page.
- Select or remove tile(s) by clicking on the map with the mouse
- Enter your email address and click 'Build my maps' or download each tile separately by clicking it's link.
Please note:
An increasing number of people use services like SpamArrest who require me to verify this service as human (i.e. not spam) each time a map is requested: I will not do that! As a result, those emails will likely not reach you. Please use a different email address instead. There appear to be problems with Blackberry accounts as well, but your mileage may vary on that one.
There are some helpful people who have written manuals for this service:
About this service:
OpenStreetMap creates and provides free geographic data such as street maps to anyone who wants them. The project was started because most maps you think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive, or unexpected ways. One of such productive use of OpenStreetMap data is to use it on Garmin GPS devices in case of this website.
This service generates four different configurations of your personal map:
- * Installer for Garmin MapSource (Windows).
- * Installer for Garmin RoadTrip (Mac OSX)
- * Combined image for direct manual placement on the GPS device (gmapsupp.img)
- * A zip file just containing all the Garmin map tiles as selected on this website. This is useful for Linux users (e.g. Qlandkarte)
Once you've selected the map tiles, filled out the form and clicked the 'Build maps' button, your request is queued on the server. The server processes each request in four steps:
- 1) Running Mkgmap to combine the requested tiles into a gmapsupp.img.
- 2) Using Nullsoft Scriptable Installer to combine the requested tiles into a Windows MapSource installer. The script used for this build is also included: 'map.nsi'.
- 3) Use the gmapibuilder script from OSM user Berteun to create an installer for the Mac OSX RoadTrip application.
- 4) Finally, an e-mail is then sent to you when all this is done.
The routable Garmin maps are created using the opensource tools Splitter r103 and Mkgmap r1451 created by OSM user Steve Ratcliffe. Splitter accepts raw OpenStreetMap data and splits it into workable areas which then are converted into Garmin maps by Mkgmap. Splitter creates a template file which lists the coordinates of the tiles. This template file is used by this website to show the Garmin tiles on the world map (the blue squares).
Notice
OpenStreetMap totally relies on the input of it's users. Please consider contributing GPS traces or by mapping your surroundings if you find this service useful.
This website is under heavy development! Tiles in red are not available on the server.
